Hope of the Pokomchi Prayer Letter, January 2021

[subscriber:firstname | default:reader],
We have officially started a new year! We plan to cover this year in prayer and we so appreciate your continued commitment to join us!

We praise God for the following answered prayer:
  • Volunteer Lynette arrived safely in Canada (in December) and had good health throughout her time here
  • We adjusted well to the changes that 2020 brought, stayed healthy, and finished 2020 well
The blessing of the Shekinah Center and it's beauty to work in
New prayer requests
  • Continued spiritual growth for ASOSAP staff
  • God's guidance for our 2021 plans; that we would conform to His will
  • Good health and protection from coronavirus for ASOSAP staff and program participants as we plan on holding sessions of the Diploma in Theology program (1st session: Feb.8 -10th) and the Pastoral Couples Conference (current health regulations allow for this, in a socially distanced manner)
  • Safety for Dr. Beth as she flies to Guatemala City to drop off the medications for the chronic patients and then flies home the next day (Jan.22 arrival, Jan 23 departure)
  • Wisdom for the Guatemalan government and leaders around the world as COVID continues in 2021 and is rising in some areas of the world
Ongoing requests from previous Prayer Letters
  • Funds for 2021 (for BMH, water tanks for families, health posts, and administration/salaries)
  • Continued strength, provision, and encouragement for the families living in evacuation centers due to their homes being destroyed by hurricanes Eta and Iota
  • Wisdom and action for government leaders in relocating the families to new, safe and permanent land and in the provision of housing
  • Continued protection, peace, strength, and provision for the pastors, chronic patients, and Food Bank Project recipients
  • That Baby Frander could have his long-awaited surgery
  • That God would continue to provide everything we need in this time of crisis
  • God’s continued protection for each of us and our families, Bill and Linda, and all of our ministry partners and supporters
Final BMH evaluations and packing supplies for Hurricane Relief deliveries
Updates from our Pokomchi world and more things to pray about:

The border and airport remain open for international travel. Mask use is mandatory. Currently, there is no COVID vaccine available in Guatemala. Cases were levelling out, but there is a rise in cases due to noncompliance with COVID prevention measures. This Jan.12 registered the highest number of cases in one day (1809) since the pandemic started in March, 2020. The president is analyzing options in light of this. San Cristobal was previously at the lowest alert: green. Cases have been increasing and we are now at the second lowest: yellow alert. Recent statistics: San Cristobal = 6 currently active, 1 death this year; Alta Verapaz = 189 currently active; Total Cases in Guatemala = 144,982; 7928 currently active; 5080 deaths; 131,974 recovered

Pokomchi Staff, Bill and Linda, the Boards of Directors, and Canadian Advisory CommitteePlease pray that we all continue to stay God-centered and God-powered.

We thank you for standing in the gap for the Pokomchi and this ministry.
You are vital to this ministry!
