Building My Horizon 2025 Update
Above is a video showing the children’s first few months at Building My Horizon! Forty children from the ages of eight to twelve continued to receive education in Computer Sciences, English, and the Bible. They also received lots of love and encouragement from the ASOSAP team, enjoyed spending time with their classmates, and had a nutritious & delicious snack each class! Thank you for your prayers and support that makes this possible!
A highlight in Computer Sciences is having the education in their own dedicated permanent room. When not in use for classes, it is used as a computer lab and students in the program can come to use the computers for school homework and can print off materials they need. It is an answered prayer and dream that this is a reality! This year they also used a new program that has focused on keyboard skills and there has been much learning and advancement.
In Bible classes they went on a journey learning about Jesus’ birth and ministry on earth, learning how to be like Him and how to follow Him. Every class they were reminded that they are God’s beloved sons and daughters and that their final destination is freedom in Christ. They sang songs, read the Bible, and had fun crafts and activities that made what they were learning real to them.
In English class we had many answered prayers! We had two teams this year and both teams taught English classes to the students. Also, we had two Canadian volunteers come to teach English to them for two months! They brought lots of energy, enthusiasm, kindness, and fun games & activities to the classes. The connection between them and the students & the ASOSAP team was a huge blessing. The children received English every week for those two months, and this really helped them learn more English.
Every year we have a cooking class, and the children chose to make pizzas this year. The volunteers assisted with this too. It was a joy- filled time of learning new skills and opening up possibilities for future careers in the area of cooking.
We are grateful for each child that God has brought into the program. Each has their own struggles, such as growing up with only one parent or in a home with many siblings and not enough resources for each one, but God cares for them and shows His love to them. It is a privilege to be a part of this through this program.
The parents are grateful for this program too. One of the new young student’s mother had a difficult upbringing and was not able to finish her studies. She had to leave school at an early age. She wanted things to be different for her children. When she heard about the program, she was determined that her daughter study with us and has been very supportive of her. The daughter started as a shy student but has flourished at class. Her mother as well has been empowered by this and is now working to finish her education.
Please join us in prayer as the program closes for this year:
- Guidance we start planning for the 2026 children’s program, which will start in June.
- The students – Twelve are aging out this year and enrolling in grade six or seven.
- Guidance as we select and enroll twelve new students.
- Volunteer English teachers, whether it be for the whole six months, or for a month or two. Please share this with anyone you know who might be interested.
- Funding for next year. We will need $10,650 (US$). Please prayerfully consider donating.
Thank you for being an important part of this journey with these children and parents!
